An article about a Romanian who briefly coached Brazil in 90s (easily readable with google translate)

I know him, he's still active with kids rugby tournaments

I hope it will be a good game tonight, considering how young and inexperienced our team is Brazil isn't a pushover and I expect trouble for us especially in the scrums.

Good game, congrats to both teams
Romania got out of that by the skin of their teeth. Chile put up another good showing against Spain. It's been a rather enlightening past two weeks. It looks like the two respective top Divs in Europe and the Americas are a lot closer to one another than I first thought. While I know Spain were missing their French based Pros and I'm sure Romania weren't at 100% the South Americans in particular aren't too far off the pace. With SLAR in the works and a greater level of professionalism in general they could further close the gap. Which is a great thing for Rugby.

Attendance: 231 people. Lowest ever recorded for the Tupis. Are we really talking about a professional league?

Why was not played at Pacaembu?
Re: June 15th - Brazil vs Romania
Too expensive to play without a predicted strong attendance.

I gather that these is a general apathy towards international teams in Brazil these days - Copa America attendances I'v seen are not brilliant, and even Brazil's opener was only 70% full. I'm not sure if this apathy would affect Rugby (unlikely), or give it an opportunity (which would need big gambles likes paying for hosting in larger stadia). But given this climate, Rugby needs people who can afford to take gambles like promoting games in larger stadia.
It makes me wonder whether all the hype around Brazil hosting RWC in 2027/31 has any chance at all of attracting large home fans - away fans from T1 will always travel, but not in sufficient numbers to fill all the stadia.
Re: June 15th - Brazil vs Romania
More to do with the fact they played it in Jundiai, I suspect. They got 35 K in the Morumbi for last year's encounter with the Maori All Blacks.

Copa America ticket prices are outrageous for Brazilian economy reality. It is not exactly apathy. Even the least interesting matches have incredibly expensive tickets...
Below zero chances of Brazil hosting a RWC. Rugby is tiny here.

Jundiaí doesn't help indeed but it is not the only reason. Maori All Blacks are different and had big promotional investment. Many non-rugby people. When Brazil played in the best located stadium (Pacaembu) during 2018 ARC we weren't drawing more than 4k prople. Osasco (where Brazil faced Spain) is in Greater São Paulo very close to two main avenues that cut São Paulo. Easy to reach by car and the attendance was 400.
The real reasons are:
- Rugby is tiny and it is NOT growing here. Forget any idea of rugby booming in Brazil. It is false. Just a misconception due to Tupis good shape.
- And an abyss between national team and club rugby. Club rugby in Brazil is in very difficult situation and miles behind Uruguay's or Chile's reality. People are tired and disconnected with the national team. Of course everybody cheer for them, but it is becoming difficult to engage the rugby community. Watch the Tupis on TV looks like enough for most people, sadly...
I've just posted this in the "Rugby in Brazil"thread:

Review with Highlights http://www.portaldorugby.com.br/noticia ... ta-de-2019
Pasteur is São Paulo's French rugby club. They are the biggest partners of Rugby Para Todos project, the rugby project to develop rugby in São Paulo 2nd biggest favela, Paraisópolis.
Final Standings in São Paulo's top division: 1 Pasteur, 2 São José, 3 Poli, 4 Jacareí, 5 Band Saracens, 6 SPAC, 7 Tornados (relegation playoff against 2nd division runner up, TBD), 8 Templários (relegated).
____
And here the big news. Most state championships have ended (only Rio's and Santa Catarina's championships are still going on) and we don't have the rest of the year calendar. Exactly. Brazilian Rugby Championship (Super 16) is yet to have its fixtures anounced and its kickoff was just postponed to"not before late August". This means Brazilian clubs don't know what they will do in the next months. Why? As the current government shut down the Sports Ministry and merged it to the new so called "Citizenship Ministry" all funding was messed up and now the Brazilian Rugby Union doesn't know when they will have the funding for Super 16.
Also Templários withdrew from Super 16 and a 16th club wasn't yet confirmed.
Easy to understand why people are not involved with the test matches...
PS: for those that don't know, Brazilian club rugby (and basicaly all sports) season is split in two: March-June = regional competitions / July-October = national championship + November-December = sevens.

Then something needs to be done about promotion of the matches.
Re: June 15th - Brazil vs Romania
Yes but they are cutting costs and focusing in 1 big event/year (Plus there is the U20 Trophy)
