Is Uruguay really strong team? After all they defeated Argentina few months ago.

As for Japan it is actual to pose a question - how many naturalized islanders do they have in the team?

Their U20 team is very heavily Japanese this year.

The article is in portuguese, not spanish. Brazillian official language is portuguese.

Hmm, I wonder if these two are somehow relatives...

Image

The youngest player seems kenyan Hibrahim Ayoo, june 2002. It's three years and a half younger than some other U20 Trophy athletes born on january 1999

Just by the look of it Uruguay seems the oldest team, with most of the players born in 1999

Agree. This team, unlike 2018 one, is very Japanese. I watched the game vs. Brasil. This is mobile and skilled team, and physically quite strong. Japan is the main contender to take Scotland's place in the elite.

In the meantime I am looking forward to watching Uruguay's performance.

Yep, not a pretty sight, most teams are conceding 50+ Points. Brazil, Kenya, Hong-Kong among others. The gap between tier 2 and 3 needs to be reduced.

Expanding it to 12 would help. The inclusion of teams like Spain, Samoa and the US would make it a lot more balanced, appealing and meaningful.

- host nation
- descendant from championship
- last years numbers 2-5
- 6 regional qualifiers

Thought it was a determined fight back from HK last night against Portugal. They were just outclassed in the 1st half by some distance. Thought both sides were a bit cynical with back chat and appeals to the ref , but thats the game now. Hopefully Portugal get their act together a bit more now.

Silver Fox
You always come out with healthy innovations

I agree with expanding to 12 teams 100+ percent =

this would create more even field as EUR | PAC | even North AME
are much stronger at U20 level than ASIA | AFR

But who will convey this motion to Dublin drunkards | fornicators?

How one could prove the feasibility to them?

Via mighty Pichot?

As little as I may like Trophy inequality, I don't think expanding to 12 teams is wise. It's an expensive tournament with amateur sides who can't afford more days on place and I hate uneven formats. To me the key is 16+8 with Championship expansion. Trophy will keep being unbalanced but deserving Tier 2 will be able to develop on the long run instead of entering and exiting world stage every year.

Good idea but they'd be better off just expanding the U20 championship to 16 teams and keep the trophy at 8.

It would cost the same (4 extra teams) and give more nations a chance to compete at a higher level which brings more media attention to them.

The cream would also rise to the top so it's less likely that the USA, Samoa etc would miss out on both tournaments.

The trophy qualifying could be changed too. There must be a dozen or more better teams than Hong Kong and Kenya who are not in it.

Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

True, but nothing on the results on the World Rugby facebook page, nothing on the Ultimate Rugby app, my two first sources I check.
Not having a simple image with the results on your facebook page screams amateurs to me. I mean they bloody obviously had a cutter and a media editor at hand, as they posted short highlight clips as the games happened. Nothing easier then preparing a final score post, hell even tell the cutter to simply take a screenshot of the final result screen, if you don't have this simple things prepared beforehand (It was very simple in the 2000ies, when I did this kind of things for another sport). But I might become a grumpy old man expecting an out-of-fashion-social-media-site like facebook to be up-to-date one day after the games took part
